There are four days left for the Engineering service Prelims exam, 2017.

These days before exam,  you will be very anxious about the exam.

And these concerns may be worrying you,

  1. I have read a lot, but when I try to recollect, I am not able to. My mind is going blank. Can I recollect them in the exam?
  2. I am coming across new sources, concepts and facts in these last days. I am trying to read those and getting tensed.
  3. Still I am unable to finish the syllabus.
  4. I do not know the answers of many questions from the mock tests.

You would  have devoted your last year in preparing for this prestigious exam. Now it is time to reap the benefits for your efforts . You should not ruin it in the last minute. What to do and what not to do in the last few days is as important as your study plan and revision plan for better performance in the exam.

It is natural to be anxious. And majority of the aspirants are in the same situation. Nobody would have finished the whole syllabus. The syllabus is vast and is humanly impossible to complete the syllabus. Especially the general studies paper, where the subjects are new for the engineers.

But please keep in mind that, the exam is not an absolute test, but a relative test. It checks only the relative performance. So the calmness with which you attended the test can determine your performance over others.

There are some general principles that you can follow at this time for maintaining your calmness.

  1. Even if you feel blank at this time, you will be able to recollect the related knowledge at the exam hall. You may be surprised, but it is true!
  2. So revise what you have learnt so far, this will help in recollection.

  1. Do not try to learn very new concepts at this time; but you can correct any mistakes in your understanding. So please avoid new study materials for  these days.
  2. Do not think about the unfinished chapters. It is not necessary to attempt all questions. You can score better with the learning you already have.
  3. Do not lose your heart even if you couldn’t score good in the mock tests. Performance in the tests doesn’t not mean that it will be same in the actual exam also.

So don’t get tensed about the exam. Performance will come naturally, if you are not messing up with your mind in these last few days. Forget about the outcome and attend the exam with a satisfied mind.

Wish you all the best from the IES GS team.
