Schemes for North-Eastern region

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has made the following   schemes for the development of North-Eastern region during the last three years:-

1.North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS)

  • It is a 100% Central Sector Scheme to be implemented till March 2020.
  • for funding physical infrastructure relating to connectivity, power, water supply enhancing tourism and social Infrastructure relating to education and health

2.Schemes of North Eastern Council (NEC) and North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS)

3.North East Venture Fund (NEVF)

4.Science & Technology Interventions in the North East Region (STINER)

  • STINER aims to bring relevant technologies developed by the academic, scientific and research institutions to the artisans and farmers especially women.

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs)

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) were sanctioned under the erstwhile Sarva Shikha Abhiyan (SSA) as residential schools at upper primary level for girls belonging to disadvantaged groups such as SC, ST, OBC, Minority and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.  

  • Under the newly launched Integrated Scheme of School Education-Samagra Shiksha, effective from the year 2018-19, provision has been made to upgrade the existing KGBVs at upper primary level to upto senior secondary level
  • The scheme envisages to provide access and quality education to girls from disadvantaged groups
  • ensuring the facility of at-least one residential school for girls from classes VI-XII in every Educationally Backward Blocks.

Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) forest produce for livelihood development

Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd. (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs & National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH signed an MoU today which aims to promote Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) forest produce for livelihood development of tribal people.

Advantages

  • will help in employment generation and skill upgradation of tribal people
  • To identify potential Medicinal plant species of the tribal areas.
  • To support training and awareness program on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) & Good Field Collection Practices (GFCP).
  • Support skill upgradation and capacity building.
  • Facilitate and render financial assistance for plantations and nursery development for MAPs through the Van Dhan Vikas Kendra SHGs.

Minor Forest Produce (MFP)

  • MFP are a major source of livelihood for tribals living in forest areas.
  • Tribals derive 20-40% of their annual income from MFP collection and sales.

World Biofuel Day 2018

  • Biofuels can help reduce import dependency on crude oil.
  • They can contribute to a cleaner environment, generate additional income for farmers, and generate employment in rural areas.
  • Therefore, biofuels have synergies with various Government initiatives, including enhancing farmers’ incomes, and Swachh Bharat.

Efforts

  • Ethanol blending in petrol has increased to an estimated 141 crore litres
  • The government is targeting ten per cent ethanol blending in petrol by 2022 and 20 per cent by 2030
  • The Government also approved the National Policy on Biofuels in June 2018.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that 12 modern biofuel refineries worth ten thousand crore rupees will be established across the country.
  • Centre is also working to make BioCNG from farm waste.

On the occasion, Prime Minister launched web portal PARIVESH, a single window for environmental, wildlife, forest and Coastal Regulation Zone clearances. He also released a book on National Biofuel Policy 2018.

Launching of state of art satellites

The state-of-the-art satellites helps to further enhance operational applications and cater to the needs of emerging applications.

The details of the state of the art satellites approved for launch till 2019-20 are:

    1. Third generation Cartosat series satellite for very high resolution mapping
    2. Second generation stereo imaging satellite for Digital Elevation Model
    3. Geostationary Imaging Satellite (GISAT) for Earth observation from Geostationary Orbit
    4. Third generation Ocean imaging satellite for ocean colour, sea surface temperature mapping and ocean surface wind vector mapping
    5. Third generation ResourceSat series of satellite with improved spatial resolution and swath
    6. C-band microwave imaging satellite for all weather and day & night imaging
    7. Constellation of  high resolution imaging satellites for frequent revisit
    8. Nanosatellite for Aerosol monitoring
    9. Satellite for monitoring chlorophyll fluorescence and radiation environment

Project “SWAYAM” of HRD Ministry

Project called ‘Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds’ (SWAYAM), which will provide one integrated platform and portal for online courses.

Features

  • This covers all higher education subjects and skill sector courses.
  • The objective is to ensure that the every student in our country has access to the best quality higher education at the affordable cost.
  • Academicians from hundreds of institutions throughout the country are involved in developing & delivering MOOCs through SWAYAM in almost all disciplines from senior schooling to Post Graduation
  • The Hon`ble President of India on 9th July, 2017 launched the SWAYAM platform
  • At present about 1550+ MOOCs courses are listed on SWAYAM of which 800+ courses are already delivered.
  • About 34 Lakhs students have enrolled in these courses.
  • It is intended to host about 2000 courses and 80000 hours of learning material, within two years

  • Is the President-elect of the United Nations General Assembly.
  • President of the 73rd UN General Assembly.
  • She is the first woman ever from Latin America and the Caribbean to preside over the Assembly.
  • The fourth woman to preside over UN General Assembly
  • Ms. Espinosa had served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility, Minister of Defence, and Coordinating Minister of Cultural and Natural Heritage of Ecuador.
